Who I Am
Hi, my name is Chester. I was born in 2003 in Bavaria and graduated from the Freie Waldorfschule Flensburg in 2023.
That same year, I undertook a self-organized 850 km solo kayaking tour from my hometown to Gothenburg, Sweden.
What I Do
Since December 2023, I've been working in a local outdoor and trekking store as a sales consultant while completing internships with the design teams of internationally recognized outdoor brands, namely Low, Vaude and Exped. These experiences helped me refine my future path and confirmed my decision to pursue Industrial Design.
I've been accepted into the Industrial Design program in Basel, starting in the winter semester of 2026. Until then, I have to fulfill the required year of internships in the fields of design and craftsmanship.
Where I Come From
Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by the idea of becoming an inventor. I’ve always loved drawing, exploring materials, and understanding how things are made. My interests span from traditional crafts like glassblowing, shoemaking and sculpture to modern techniques like CAD modeling and carbon fiber lamination.
Already during my school years, I came into contact with a wide range of creative disciplines. The Waldorf curriculum gave me deep and practical exposure to art, crafts, design, and even architecture – all of which helped shape the way I approach problems and develop ideas today.
How I Work
One of my favorite self-initiated projects was building custom-made ice hockey skates from scratch. I went through multiple iterations – from casting my feet in plaster to using 3D scanning and printing – and combined technical problem-solving with handcrafting and material research. The result: a working pair of skates I tested myself in Hamburg.
For me, design is not just about aesthetics or concepts – it’s about real-world function, understanding, and experimentation. I always try to learn through doing, to merge thinking and making. Whether it's with a sewing machine, a 3D printer, or a chisel, I love turning ideas into reality.
