About Me
Hello, I’m Chester Looks. I am preparing to start my Industrial Design studies at the University of Art and Design Basel in the winter semester of 2026. Until then, I am gaining hands-on experience through various internships in design and craftsmanship.
My Path
From an early age, I have been fascinated by art, craft and design — a curiosity that has always come from within. The Freie Waldorfschule Flensburg provided a supportive environment in which I could further explore and develop my interests, whether through glassblowing as part of a year-long project, practical sculpture courses or other creative opportunities. These experiences, together with my own independent projects, have continually fuelled my drive to understand how things work and turn ideas into reality. After graduating in 2023, I worked as a sales consultant in the outdoor sector and completed internships with renowned brands, gaining valuable insights into design and product development. This further solidified my decision to pursue industrial design and deepened my interest in the interplay between creativity, technology, and craftsmanship.
My Approach
All my personal projects begin with the drive to create something tangible—usually something that doesn’t yet exist or isn’t easily available. While I’ve always enjoyed drawing since childhood, my interests naturally shifted toward bringing ideas into the physical world. For me, it’s never been about following instructions or recreating what’s already out there. I’m most engaged when I can develop the process myself: finding new approaches, designing original solutions, and inventing my own methods.Prototyping is central to my working method. I believe that the best way to discover whether a concept truly works is to build and test ideas at an early stage. This iterative, hands-on process fuels my creativity and enables me to develop practical, functional solutions.Looking ahead, I want to continue focusing on projects that are both innovative and responsible. I believe that good design should result in durable, repairable products that are environmentally conscious — solutions that genuinely improve everyday life rather than encouraging unnecessary consumption.
Looking Ahead
As I prepare for my studies in Basel, I’m eager to broaden my perspective through diverse internships and new collaborations. I’m always open to exciting projects and opportunities, so please feel free to get in touch via my contact page.
